Michael Litchfield, a founding editor of Fine Homebuilding magazine, has renovated houses from Vermont to California and has written seven well-received books on home improvement. He is currently revising his comprehensive reference, Renovation: A Complete Guide, for a third edition (The Taunton Press, 2005).

Roger Robinson, owner of Star Inspection Group in Oakland, California, has personally inspected more than 6,000 buildings, has served on the national board of the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI), and is past president of the California Real Estate Inspection Association (CREIA).
